Monday, March 7, 2011 - Gave a demonstration of my art techniques at The Cheyenne Artists' Guild, 1701 Morrie Ave., Cheyenne, WY, 82001. This was a great success with lots of interaction between me and those in the audience. There was lots of laughter and fun! ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Painting expresses my joy in being alive and aware in this amazing, beautiful world. My inspiration comes from nature, memories of places I have been, a thought, pictures, music, a dream, or a totally spontaneous happening as I paint. Texture, color, and light are key in achieving the richness and depth I am looking for. My paintings emerge from a highly interactive process involving my hands, eyes and feelings, my ordinary self and greater Self, the original experience/image, my tools and materials, and what happens on the canvas itself. As the painting develops, it seems to take on a life of its own giving rise to surprising intuitive urges like using my left hand or changing the color scheme entirely. Creating rich illusions using all kinds of textures applied with all kinds of traditional and non-traditional tools, rich color and the shimmer and sparkle of natural light is a magical journey. I often receive images to paint during meditation.

Both creating and viewing art is a vital, sensual and emotional experience. It is a full and conscious participation in the on-going act of creation experienced through the senses, feelings and intuitive understandings of an aware human being.

BIO
I took art (my favorite class) all through high school and for 2 semesters in college. At that time, I particularly liked working with oil pastels and creating serigraphs. I won a Bank of America award for a serigraph done in my senior year of high school.

My dream of being an artist continued through three other careers. I figured that after retirement I would take art classes at the community college in hopes of re-discovering my art talent. Before retirement, I took several classes in the wet-on-wet oil technique and was hooked on painting in my first class! Since then, I am developing my own techniques using acrylics with special emphasis on textures, including thicker than standard impasto applications for caves, rocks and trees.

I have lived all my life in the western United States and relish the Pacific Ocean, the High Sierra, the Rockies, and the extraordinary deserts of this area. I currently reside and work in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Currently, I show my work in Wyoming and Colorado, often receiving awards for my mixed mediums paintings in judged shows.
